Science, Religion and Common Sense
Part 1
In our search for truth we start with common sense. There are certain characteristic values which have been discerned in humans. It is difficult to define them all but one basic principle which persons acknowledge is cause and effect. Common sense is not taught but is basic to human nature. Even primitive persons with limited knowledge use common sense. For example; Such a person might notice the part that the forces of nature play in life. Seeking for a cause, and without sufficient knowledge of nature, he will invent a cause by selecting some object to worship. By selecting the object to worship, this person is showing that common sense has led him to the realization that a superior creator exists, However that is where the matter ends because he has not sufficient knowledge to go beyond that and draw a more accurate conclusion
Scientist are generally portrayed as grey-haired gentleman in white coats who never give an answer unless they have considered all the evidence. Nothing could be further from the truth. They all interpret the evidence in harmony with their beliefs, For the purpose of our discussion, we will suggest a few definitions. For example, we will define Science as “the search for knowledge and understanding.” We will define religion as “a belief in some supernatural cause.” Objectivity will be defined as “without bias in any way.
In this context, we see that scientists are not really objective. All have a religious belief, whether they admit it or not. Generally scientists who regard themselves as religious will interpret the evidence that they find in terms that harmonize with their religion. If a scientist claims to be a Christian and a member of one of the thousands of professed Christian churches, the scientist will try to understand the evidence that he finds in harmony with the teaching of his church. Therefore a scientist’s beliefs affect his interpretation of the evidence.
The atheist or agnostic has a slightly different approach. Common sense also tells him that there has to be a first cause. However, he, avoids being classified as religious. How does he manage this? He uses self-deception, by employing a common technique which humans use to color the truth called “term switching.” To illustrate what I mean, a rebel may be referred to as a “terrorist” if you do not like him or a “freedom fighter” If you do like him. The atheist or agnostic hides his religious belief under cover of “term switching.”
The evolution theory provides this convenient cover, because it claims to be purely scientific and not religious. This is a lie. Let us examine the facts. The word “nature” describes everything that is not man made. A lake can be described as natural but if a dam has been built creating the lake, then the lake is not regarded as natural. Nature is merely a description of the processes we observe that are at work in the world. Surroundings that are unaffected by human hands are referred to as natural. The evolutionist dishonestly personifies this descriptive term, giving it the personality of a Goddess Mother. If one reads evolutionary literature, one finds that it is full of this term switching technique. eg. Nature has provided protective coloring, or Nature displays purpose in causing certain plants to give off odors to attract insects. We are not told what scientific procedure nature uses to produce these odors and how it knows that the insects like it. These personifications are freely used to describe exactly the same characteristics that a religious person would assign to a creator. Even the expression “mother nature” is an admission of creativity, because a mother by giving birth brings forth life . “Term switching” is the deceptive process that evolutionists use to cover their natural need for cause and effect, while appearing to be completely materialistic. Therefore one should realize that all science rather than being objective is religiously biased.
Does it matter what we believe?
Yes! Hitler believed in the evolutionary goddess. He believed in the evolutionary law of the “Survival of the fittest” He believed that he was not answerable to a creator. so he plunged the world into a war that destroyed 55,000,000 million lives. The Japanese people had a religion known as “Shintoism.” Shinto worshippers committed suicide by the thousands in harmony with their beliefs. The communists also looked to the mother goddess of evolution to account for creation and then treated other religions as the “opium of the people. ” In this way they also avoided responsibility for their actions by maintaining that the survival of the fittest was a natural law. Yes! It does matter what we believe. With a false religion , the opinions of the person or persons in power decide what truth is but true religion should be based on revelation that is proven to be accurate. This requires common sense to recognize it. We need to find the truth by using “Scientific, objectivity and common sense” , which is not like the present scientific field which begins with a predetermined religious bias. Is there a scientific way of arriving at the truth with genuine objectivity?
The Reality of the Universe
Scientific observation has disclosed that the universe is expanding. It is almost as if it has exploded and we are here some time after the explosion, able to view it. Robert Jastrow, Professor of Astronomy and Geology at Columbia University, wrote: “Few astronomers could have anticipated that this event—the sudden birth of the Universe—would become a proven scientific fact, but observations of the heavens through telescopes have forced them to that conclusion.” He then commented on the implications: “The astronomical proof of a Beginning places scientists in an awkward position, for they believe that every effect has a natural cause . . . The British astronomer E. A. Milne wrote, ‘We can make no propositions about the state of affairs [in the beginning]; in the Divine act of creation God is unobserved and unwitnessed.’”—The Enchanted Loom—Mind in the Universe. Evolutionist sensing the implication of this have tried to re-interpret these facts by inventing a theory known as the oscillating universe theory. The claim is that gravity will slow down the expansion until it stops and then it will compress again and repeat the cycle of expansion and compression indefinitely. Further investigation has disproved this theory, because it has been determined that the universe is not slowing down, but speeding up. If we imagine that the passage of time has been recorded on film, then if by winding the film back to the beginning, we find a dot coming into existence. This demands an act of creation. If the evolutionist wishes to hang on to mother nature, as a cause then he should be honest enough to admit that she is a goddess of his creation and therefore he is practicing a form of religion. This goddess he endows with all the attributes of the true God. She is possessed of enormous power, is extremely wise, knows far more that all our scientists about mechanics, electrical engineering, atomic theory etc. So even the evolutionist unknowingly testifies to the existence of an almighty intelligent personage that has been proven to exist by the use of Science and total objectivity and so religion has been introduced by the application of the scientific method.
In Part 2 I intend showing how far science can go with regard to :learning about God.
